India Eye 3-1 Lead Against West Indies in Hyderabad T20I Showdown
India face West Indies in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad on Wednesday, seeking a 3-1 series lead. With Abhishek Sharma in explosive form and West Indies aiming to level the series, batting and bowling discipline could prove decisive.
India secured a commanding victory in the third match in Indore, posting 223 runs. Abhishek Sharma played a major role in that performance, smashing 69 runs off just 30 balls. The Indian batting lineup has been led effectively by the trio of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, reducing the pressure on the middle order. However, Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Naman Dhir could get more opportunities in the upcoming match. Meanwhile, West Indies all-rounder Shamar Springer said the team was considering a defensive approach to contain India’s batters.
For West Indies, captain Shai Hope and opening batter Sharfane Rutherford have delivered impressive performances in the series so far. Rutherford has scored 172 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 189, while Hope has added 159 runs. West Indies successfully chased India’s target of 249 runs in the second match in Ranchi, a result that has boosted the visitors’ confidence ahead of the Hyderabad encounter.
India’s bowlers will need to maintain discipline to restrict the West Indies batting lineup. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and spinner Naman Dhir have played important roles in the previous matches. High scores have been recorded in earlier IPL matches at Hyderabad’s stadium, and dew could emerge as a significant factor in the contest.
India are considered favourites, having won 11 of their last 13 matches against West Indies on home soil. Since 2017, West Indies have beaten India in a T20 series in India only once. The ongoing tour also marks West Indies’ first visit to India for a T20 series since 2022.
